Native Plants
With water restrictions, hotter temperatures and less bio-diversity for native animals
and birds, New Leaves recommends maximum planting of natives where possible. Many of our natives
are beautiful specimens with exquisite flowers and create stunning gardens. Native gardens can
also be interspersed with your favourite exotics, annuals and perennials.

Advantages of native plants:
- Grow with little maintenance once established
- By providing native habitats in our gardens, we are helping to conserve the biodiversity
- They are usually drought resistant and water saving plants
Wildlife friendly gardens need to provide a diversity of local native species, including larger plants complemented by native ground covers, grasses and small dense shrubs.
Even corporate buildings can create sheltered, safe courtyards with native plants to attract wildlife as every new plant and tree contributes to “greening” our environment.
Frog pond
Create a frog pond in a sheltered area to provide water for birds and habitat for frogs. Provide rocks and hollow logs for lizard habitats. Do not feed artificial foods. This can be a major health issue to native birds and encourages feral birds such as Indian Mynahs into your garden. |

| Garden mulching helps reduce weeds, reducing the need for watering and providing further habitat. Create native lawns or 'meadows' with native grasses to provide habitat, seed, and nesting material for birds, with minimal mowing required.
